Summer is finally coming to an end here in Cambridge as the student population is slowly
starting to trickle into the city. Soon the trickle will become a flood and summer will officially
be over. Here at the Varsity Hotel Cambridge we appreciate that this time of year is always
a time of change, and stand ready to help you change too.
End of Summer Resolution?
A “New Year’s Resolution” has a nice ring to it. A full calendar year has ended, giving us an
excellent point to make changes in our lives. At least in theory, for most of us. But in truth
it’s really not that great of a time to make those sweeping changes. With the Christmas
Season and the New Year finally over, January is always a boring anticlimax. And we’re
always limited by the changes to our lives we can realistically make while we’re still stuck in
the middle of winter.
But the end of the summer? That’s a different story. For during the summer we all have a
tendency to take things easy. To laze about. Go on holidays. Enjoy the outdoors without
worrying about what to wear other than sunscreen. Or perhaps spend time drinking with
friends on a certain Roof Terrace…
But the end of the summer is the end of those lazy, hot days without much care in the world.
The chill of oncoming winter brings minds and bodies alike into focus. Reminding us that
there is work to be done. Challenges to be overcome. Personal milestones to reach.
Back into Shape
But if there is one attitude above all that people feel at this time of year it is the resolve to get
back to it. Summer’s over, time to get serious. Time to stop loafing around and put the work
in. Perhaps it’s work on our careers or hobbies. But more often than not it’s to work on our
bodies. After all, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind.
Our Glassworks Gym and Spa is the perfect place for just such a resolution. True, it’s a
modern gym with all the bells and whistles that one would expect. But that’s not our secret
to success. For we understand that what stops people from exercising more isn’t the lack of
facilities or equipment, even at home. But the lack of motivation.
We tackle this in two ways. First of all, as any fitness instructor would tell you when asked
“what’s the best exercise I can do to get in shape?” The answer is simple – the one you
enjoy most. Because if you enjoy it, you’ll do it more often and more easily. Accordingly, we
run a very wide range of regular classes running from Aerobics to Zumba. So you’re bound
to find something you like.
